The Sherwood Diner- Westport, CT - Despite the friendly hosts this is one place you do not want to eat if you have a food allergy! There is truly a lack of awareness here when it comes to the needs of food allergic patrons. The waitstaff were unfamiliar with the oil used in the kitchen, which happens to be soybean oil for those of you with soy allergies. When asked if it would be possible to accommodate our families allergies by using a separate pan to cook our order in we were told that the kitchen staff could not comply. In addition margarine was the only alternative cooking fat that could be used to cook with and when asked if they would be willing to use butter for our order we were again told that this request could not be met.We were informed that the bacon is precooked as are a number of other menu items so having freshly prepared food made to accommodate an allergic patrons food needs is simply out of the question. The King's Taster suggests passing by this restaurant if you are in Westport anytime soon and gives it only one spoon. If we could go lower we would.
